About this service

A five-time Stanley Cup recipient and countless other awards, the Pittsburgh Penguins, NHL Ice Hockey Team is easily recognized as one of the most famous mascots in the USA. From the debut of “Penguin Pete” in 1968 and “Re-Pete” to the current “Iceburgh”, the penguin has always been a crowd-pleaser. The fans can’t chant loud enough, “Let’s Go Pens!” Their logo through the years has evolved but ultimately returned to a more athletic version of its earlier days.

The Opportunity

After brainstorming with their marketing department, it was decided to create an experiential scenic display that fans could connect to and interact with for those selfies and photo memories! #LET’S GO PENS + their beloved logo was born.

The Process

A 3D file was created from a mockup the client sent then each letter was cut from styrofoam using the hotwire machine while the 3D CNC Mill cut the Penguin logo and hockey sticks. The pieces were then hard coated, sanded, and painted with a removable wooden base added. We also created a vinyl protective cover to place in when it is disassembled and stored when not in use. During the season, this now sits in the lobby of PPG Paints Arena!
