Netflix; most know what it is but for those that may not, “is a streaming service that offers a wide variety of award-winning TV shows, movies, anime, documentaries, and more on thousands of internet-connected devices.” – Netflix.com We were honored to be approached by Netflix filming an upcoming horror series (it has still not even been announced yet) in Pittsburgh, PA.
The Opportunity
What the set designer needed was the replica of a sconce and needed it in multiples. Yes, they were able to rent the sconces from a prop store for over $6,000.00; however, using our in house techniques we were able to replicate the sconce, producing the same quantity requested for less than $6,000.00 and now this new customer actually owns the props!
The Process
Starting with an actual sconce, we created a 3D model and utilizing our 3D CNC mill to sculpt the details of the face of the sconce in high density foam; next, we laser cut the fixture shade pieces of the sconce using our Fusion Pro Laser Machine. From there, we created multiple molds and filled those mould with a high quality resin, finishing up with some sanding and a strong adhesive. All of this being accomplished in just two (2) short days!
